ORIGINAL MEDICARE
What might Part B cover?
A starting point for the supplies and equipment we offer. Coverage depends on your medical need, the item, and supporting records—not the brand name. Photos illustrate categories; coverage of a pictured model must be confirmed.
About your costs: For covered Part B items, you generally pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount after the deductible when the supplier accepts assignment. Other insurance may help. Medicare Advantage plans can have different networks, authorization steps, and costs.
For eligible people with diabetes and qualifying foot disease, the extra-depth shoe benefit generally allows one pair of shoes and three pairs of inserts per calendar year. Your diabetes-treating doctor must certify the need, with an order from a qualified prescriber. A coded shoe alone does not establish coverage.
Prescribed garments, adjustable wraps, nighttime options, and bandaging supplies for diagnosed lymphedema. See the quantities and paperwork checklist below.
Medically necessary mobility equipment for use at home. Your order and records must support the specific device. Rental or purchase rules depend on the equipment.
Standard bath seats and raised toilet seats are generally excluded. A bedside commode may qualify when you are confined to a room or floor without a toilet, or a home without toilet facilities.
Dressings for a qualifying surgical or debrided wound may qualify. Wound records must support the dressing type and amount. Ordinary first-aid purchases are not automatically covered.
Medically necessary supplies following a colostomy, ileostomy, or urinary ostomy. The amount depends on your condition and your treating provider’s order.
Eligible cushions used with a qualifying wheelchair may be covered. Specialized pressure or positioning cushions have additional criteria; a comfort cushion alone does not establish eligibility.
Disposable briefs, pull-ons, and absorbent pads are not covered by Original Medicare. If you also have Partnership, check its separate incontinence benefit.
Only the seat-lift mechanism may qualify under strict medical criteria—not the chair or upholstery. Difficulty standing up alone is not enough to qualify.
You must have diagnosed lymphedema and an order from your treating practitioner. Standard and custom compression garments, adjustable wraps, nighttime garments, necessary accessories, and compression bandaging supplies may qualify.
3Daytime garments or wrapsPer affected body area, every 6 months.
2Nighttime garmentsPer affected body area, every 2 years.
These are combined limits for each category—not an allowance for every brand or style. Both daytime and nighttime items can qualify for the same affected area. Only medically necessary quantities are covered.
Bring your insurance cards and any prescription you already have. We can explain which records your treating team needs to send.
01 · THE ORDER
A signed written prescription
Medicare’s Standard Written Order includes:
Your name or Medicare number
The order date
A description of the items, including separately billed supplies or accessories
The quantity, when applicable
The treating practitioner’s name or NPI, and their signature
The supplier must receive the completed order before submitting the claim. Ask the prescriber to identify the affected area, garment type, and prescribed compression so the order can be matched to your needs.
A lymphedema diagnosis documented by your treating MD, DO, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or clinical nurse specialist
Why the prescribed items and quantities are medically necessary
For custom items, why a standard, ready-made item will not meet your needs
For replacement supplies, support for the quantity and timing
A prescription alone does not replace the supporting clinical record. Therapist notes can support fitting and treatment needs, but the diagnosis must be documented by the treating practitioner. A therapist’s diagnosis alone—even countersigned—does not meet this requirement.
The supplier keeps the order, supporting medical records, beneficiary authorization, proof of delivery, and evidence of continued need and use when applicable. Fitting includes measurements and instruction on putting on, removing, and caring for the garment; necessary fitting services are included in Medicare’s garment payment.
Earlier replacement may be allowed for loss, theft, irreparable damage, or a change in your medical or physical condition that makes a new size or type necessary. Contact us before replacing an item so we can check the documentation and applicable replacement rules.
No. This Medicare benefit is for diagnosed lymphedema. Compression purchased for travel, comfort, or swelling without a qualifying lymphedema diagnosis is not automatically covered under this benefit. Some other medical situations have separate coverage rules.

Covered when medically necessary
Bathroom safety equipment
Bath seats, transfer benches, toilet rails, raised toilet seats, grab bars, and bedside commodes can qualify. The order and authorization documentation must explain your needs and ability to use the equipment.
Partnership’s standard, over-the-counter compression benefit allows two units per limb every six months with a physician’s prescription and no prior authorization. Custom garments and other compression items need a separate item-specific review.
Medically necessary briefs, pull-ons, and related supplies may qualify. Partnership requires a prescription and Treatment Authorization Request (TAR) for absorbent supplies. Quantities and the specific product must be approved; a preferred brand is not guaranteed.
Wheelchair seating and positioning components may qualify when the assessment supports the need. Ask us to review the cushion with your wheelchair and prescription.
Prescribed medical supplies may qualify under Medi-Cal supply benefits. We can help check your dressing or ostomy item, quantities, and Partnership authorization requirements before an order.
Bring a current prescription, your member card, and provider contact details. For bathroom equipment, records should address how long it is needed, strength and mobility, mental status, and safe use. We’ll check whether prior authorization is needed.
A Treatment Authorization Request asks Partnership to approve an item or service. Your order may need clinical notes or other supporting information. Approval requirements and supply limits vary by item.
Does coverage apply to every product or rental?
No. Confirm the exact product and benefit before purchasing. A store’s daily, weekly, or monthly rental offering does not by itself establish insurance coverage. Call about knee scooters, ice machines, lift chairs, and other items that need an individual review.
What if I also have Medicare?
Tell us about both plans before ordering so we can check which coverage applies and the billing sequence. The Partnership compression benefit and Medicare lymphedema benefit have different rules; their quantity limits should not be added together.
Check before you buy.
This guide explains possible benefits, not a coverage decision. Eligibility, medical necessity, plan rules, supplier participation, and authorization determine payment. Call our team to review the item and next steps before placing an order.
