Common compression questions

Do I need an appointment for a fitting?

Not always. Call (707) 363-1607 to find out whether your compression fitting needs an appointment and what to bring.

What’s the difference between stockings and wraps?

Stockings are knitted garments that pull onto the limb. Adjustable wraps fasten with individual bands or closures. Each line has its own sizing and fitting process; our team can help compare the construction and features of the products your clinician recommends.

How does a custom garment order work?

We take detailed measurements, review the prescribed coverage and compression, and discuss the fabric and finishing details. These may include toe or finger coverage, attachment bands, closures, and help with putting the garment on. Medi, JOBST, and L&R each offer different custom designs. We confirm the order and expected timing, then check the fit when the garment arrives.

What’s the difference between standard, custom, and trim-to-fit?

Standard garments use a manufacturer’s size chart, so measurements still matter. Custom garments are made to individual measurements. Some wraps also come in a trim-to-fit version that is fitted and trimmed by a trained provider. These are different ordering options—not interchangeable sizes of the same item.

Does a firmer fabric mean a higher compression level?

Not necessarily. Compression level describes pressure. Containment describes how strongly the fabric resists stretching as the limb swells. We consider both the fabric and the prescribed pressure when comparing a softer custom garment with a firmer one.

Do you offer nighttime garments?

Yes. Compare Circaid Profile, JOBST Relax and JoViPak, custom TributeNight, and adjustable Tribute Wrap. The product pages show arm, leg, and other coverage options. Some systems need a separate oversleeve or jacket; we confirm the complete setup for the nighttime routine recommended by your care team.

What are SwellSpots used with?

SwellSpots are shaped foam pads used inside compression garments or beneath bandaging. They are an addition to the garment, with the shape and placement guided by your therapist or clinician.

Which compression level should I choose?

Your clinician determines the compression appropriate for your care. Bring that recommendation with you; Family Medical can help with product selection, measurements, and fitting.

Could insurance cover my compression?

Medicare and Partnership have different benefits and documentation requirements. Read our insurance guide and Medicare lymphedema checklist, then call us to review your specific item before ordering.

Can I order these products online?

For now, call or visit the store to confirm sizing, pricing, and ordering. The website shows product lines we offer, rather than a live inventory of every size and color.
